Harvest Hope is a true symbol of hope and encouragement. In an economy where the most basic necessities become difficult to afford, the Pee Dee area has a valuable companion in its battle against hunger.
Since it opened in 1998, the Pee Dee branch of Harvest Hope has provided food to families in need through its proud partnering agencies, which include food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. Programs like the Emergency Food Pantry and the Back Pack/snack sack program which provides food to school children who otherwise might not have it on weekends, have helped to give Harvest Hope a reputation for giving and caring. Our Mobile Food Pantries deliver food directly to rural areas or other remote pockets of poverty where there is a scarcity of food service and transportation is an issue. The year 2010 saw the Pee Dee location distribute nearly 5 million pounds of food to nearly one half a million residents throughout the 8 county Pee Dee region. These numbers certainly would not be attained without the help of generous donations that include financial gifts and food drives. Volunteers also play a big role in the distribution process, assisting the dedicated staff in the Harvest Hope mission, which is “to provide for the needs of hungry people by gathering and sharing quality food with dignity, compassion and education”.
